Has Facebook Started Turning Grey?

Facebook! The world’s favorite Social Networking website has had an extraordinary and remarkable journey all through until the recent past. This service initially created to connect the students of Harvard, went ahead and touched the everyday lives of people living across the globe. Friends, photos, videos, statuses and many more..All what is required to give that “complete social networking experience” for people and businesses, we found them all in Facebook. The Like symbol indicating thumbs-up turned out to be so popular among the Facebook member community. Facebook came as a big boon to businesses who followed some conventional methods to reach their customers. Facebook Page, Ads, Timeline and many more.  Having touched the No: 1 position so quickly, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg went ahead to make initial public offering.

Hey! but wait this social media giant met its rival. It began losing colors with the launch of Pinterest in March 2010. Pinterest is an online pinboard which allows you to organize and share images based on a theme such as hobbies, events etc. This website had captured the hearts of the women folk when it began as they used the space to share recipes, home decor and crafts. Today Pinterest is the third popular online social network in the U.S and has been named “The next Facebook”.

Pinterest aims to connect people visually with interesting images. An user pins to a pinboard with description. Virtual pin boards are definitely an advantage over text or message platforms. If you are an artist or a photographer, Pinterest can prove a good platform to get an exposure to your images.

Many of you might think whether to use Pinterest or ignore it for some reason. Read on to find out how Pinterest can prove useful for you. The virtual pinboard can be used for academics, business marketing, healthcare and blogging.

If you are new to the Pinterest website, get started with a few pins on your pinboard. When you have a collection of images relating to fashion or any specific event like a college day,  pin them all to a  pinboard which shall carry the event as the theme and a description about it. Description carries a lot of weightage in this website. When you pin, add keywords in your description and give a catchy pin title. Describe yourself with relevant keywords in your bio as Google is indexing Pinterest profiles and boards individually. Use Pinterest to pin your images as well as repin images of others to your own pinboard. What you really do is while your promote your pins, you inturn promote other pins too.

A Visual Treat

If you are into business and would like to promote your brand, use your own Pinterest account to showcase your products. Create an awareness for your products. As the medium to convey is visual, work on the pictures and images of your products and make them attractive. Hire a photographer if required and make share pictures that will invite likes, comments, re-pins and follow instantly. If you have a product line, try to have separate boards so that you can target specific products with relevant consumers. But remember you aren’t selling at Pinterest.

Pin- It Button For Your Website

Now that you have opted to use Pinterest to promote your products, you will able to gain a considerable amount of traffic. You must have added the Facebook Like and Tweet buttons on your website. Now add the “Pin-It” button to the pages on your website. Visitors to your website can pin they find interesting to their boards from your website directly. Add Pinterest widgets for your website.

Visibility In The Other Major Social Media

For all businesses who might think Facebook and Twitter are still worthy, here’s way out for you all. Use the Pinvolve to link your Facebook page and Pinterest. You will able to share products, pictures to your Pinterest boards. Pinterest also enables you to share your activities on your Facebook profile as well as tweet to keep your presence in these social media too.

Blogging

As a blogger make your blog effective by adding the “Pin It” button. Allow your visitors to share  your blog pictures and add comments about them on your pinboard . You also get quality backlinks(DoFollow) for your blog.  Google analytics may let you know which content gained the actual referral click(really created interests among people) on and permits you to click-through and find out what that content or image is.

Nothing can beat Facebook for its large user base. It also has the advantage of people spending more hours(even 7 hours a day) on it. But today Pinterest is the fastest growing website. With interactive visual boards, it certainly has the capabilities to  help your site or blogs drive increasing traffic.

    Hi Caroline,

I just finished reading a post before this one on how to schedule your pins to Pinterest. I must confess, I’m not a real big lover of this site. I think what made me nervous was the copyright issues with photos. I mean if I pin something because I’m supporting a blogger or I like a recipe and those photos were copyrighted, I could get into trouble for sharing them. Hey, it’s not that important to me so I’ve just never used it.

I think a lot of people find a site and fall in love and I really enjoy Facebook more to be honest with you. You can have real conversation there more and I don’t know, I just like their site better. I’m not alone with this thinking yet I do know plenty of people who are crazy about Pinterest.

    To each his own right!

    Hi,
You have some good pointers for pinning on Pinterest. I have heard some good things and some bad when it comes to Pinterest..I am not there yet, but have been thinking about it. Not to sure on what to do when I get there. I have heard they have the right to take your images & links away so for that reason I haven’t brothered with it..

Thanks for your information it is very useful..

    Caroline,

I do like Pinterest and have used it.

I have been having second thoughts about it though after talking to Adrienne and the fact that we could get in to trouble with copyrighted images.

I don’t know anything about the copyright issues but am going to look into it.

We use images on Facebook as well and that does not seem to be a problem.

I will say I have found a lot of things on Pinterest that interest me. I like looking at the pictures.

Facebook is better for building relationships however.

Great post on Pinterest and how it relates to Facebook.
